The jungle is full of spectral hyenas and scary sounds. The first time you try this it might take several successful strikes to kill the animal but keep at it since this action can lead to unlocking new abilities and making it easier to dodge or counterattack in the future. When you first take control of a hominid in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, you’ll be the infant from the game’s prologue cutscene. If you get it right, you’ll spear the attacker, wounding or killing it. When you’re properly lined up, listen to for the audio cue and release A, X, or Space (depending on your input device), and you’ll attempt to strike the animal. Now, instead of choosing a direction to dodge, aim for the attacking animal using left stick, or the A button on your keyboard. When the animal charges you, wait for the slow-motion event to kick in, then press and hold A, X, or Space depending on what input device you’re using. Once you have a stick, though, things are very similar to dodging with a small alteration. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person open world survival game where you Explore, Expand, and Evolve to advance your clan to the next generation in the exciting new adventure from Panache Digital Games. If you’re not at the point yet where you know how to get a stick, you should probably be dodging instead. Counterattacksīefore you can perform a counterattack, you’ll need a stick. The only way to get the timing correct is practice and listen carefully for the prompt, so get back at it until you master the dodge. If you get injured or trampled, the timing was off. If you dive safely out of the way, you performed the dodge correctly. When you hear a subtle audio cue, release A, X, or Space to perform the dodge. From there, use the left stick on an Xbox One or PS4 controller, or A on your keyboard, to choose a direction. Hold A (Xbox One), X (PS4), Space (Keyboard). This will enter you into a slow-motion event. To dodge an attack, wait for the animal to move towards you. In this guide, we’ll show you how to dodge and counterattack predators, including buttons and keybindings for PC, and button inputs for PS4 and Xbox One controllers. Get it right and you’ll return to your settlement healthy, get it wrong and you’ll end up with some broken bones, bleeding, or even having been poisoned. If you’re going to evolve in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, you’re going to have to learn to dodge and counterattack predators on a regular basis.
